Barefoot and Golf courses

Okay I will admit it …..running on manicured grass and mown tracks is a darn sight more enticing than a gnarly rock strewn trail if you are a barefoot runner.

Is a raw diet optimal

My question is, where is the evidence for this extraordinary claim?  Is a raw diet optimal this claim is constantly repeated by the raw foodism movement  but I have never seen anyone provide 100% scientific evidence that would substantiate the claim.

If any reader has used the Sockwa range let me know what you thought.

Sockwa X8

http://www.sockwa.com/   The X8 is BREATHABLE.

The fabric is a custom blend of an odor-free, moisture wicking lining  The outer layer of the fabric is also breathable, and has great abrasion resistance.

I have not used them as they are just out so no review opportunity but they look like they could be useful as a minimalist choice.

For me the whole discussion started with and involves several raw foodist guru people and their disciples claiming that a raw diet is optimal and the claims, raw foods also avoid the toxins you get from cooked foods, forgetting that certain raw foods also have a toxic level.

I am not in any argument that it is optimal to include as a prefered choice raw plant based foods and a substantial amount of fresh fruit in the diet, but there is no reason or evidence that exclusive raw foodism is optimum for humans

My question is, where is the  evidence for this extraordinary claim? The claim is constantly repeated by the raw foodism advocates but I have never seen anyone provide evidence that would substantiate the claim that it is the  optimal diet.

Now before you get to thinking that I do not believe that a raw food lifestyle is not an optimal design what I am saying is, I don’t think raw foodism as a scientific ideal is 100% provable.

But that is not what A raw food lifestyle is about.

If you want to live on fruit, go ahead and try it, but i do not think you can make the definitive claim that it is the optimal diet, for all humans in every circumstance.

There is plenty of evidence that people living on raw diets have better health and longevity, though I have yet to see it as a 100% scientific result, that it is so superior than to people who live on whole foods plant based diets that include some cooked foods.

In fact there is evidence is that present day humans NEED to use some cooked food in certain circumstances to thrive because of poor availability and quality of produce, due to depleted soils

Biological definition of frugivore

Science tells us that humans have a genetic legacy as specialized frugivores, the biological definition of frugivore, i.e. an animal that specializes in eating botanical fruits, which include legumes, seeds of grasses (grains), nuts, and seeds.

There is a lot of research into the ” theory ” of the evolutionary path of our ancestors utilizing tubers available to them as a food resource.

These are a non-fruit plant food but they have a nutritional profile practically the same as fruits. Hence, they are an easy transition in evolutionary terms.

A fruit-eater doesn’t need any radically new digestive equipment to move from specializing in fruit to concentrating on tubers.

Indeed if the theory is to be taken as gospel truth that our ancestors only ate sweet juicy fruits plucked from a tree, would put human ancestors subsisting primarily on fruit in direct conflict with chimpanzees.

Living on the modern fruits is difficult enough — that’s why almost no one achieves it, that’s why raw foodism ideology sees people end up eating ” sneaked “cooked food or doing “raw till 4” or having a ‘back up plan’ or seeking “super foods” or eating a lot of fat.

The outcome I see of this are people who give up the idea of raw food nutrition and slide into bad habits through ” guilt” and ” failure” of not being able to conform to the expected 100% Raw Foodism Ideal.

Sure, anyone who is dedicated enough and wants to ‘prove’ that raw foodism is the best Ideology, can find a way to chow down the amount of modern soft fruit required to meet caloric and sugar requirements.

Using a blender to make high calorie smoothies is not an evolutionary leap forward, though it is a tool to avail yourself of the positive elements of a raw food lifestyle.

The cooked food / raw foodism  argument is dependant on a few issues and what you are you are comparing it to.

Per calorie, dates have a similar nutritional profile to rice.

Bananas are fairly similar to potatoes.

Papaya has more vitamins per calorie than sweet potatoes.

In a modern world sweet potatoes are both affordable, widely available and contain a substantial amount of both micro-nutrition and calories, they still need to be cooked lightly but are a far better choice than french fries.

I am not advocating for one moment that 100% raw foodism is the “optimal” ideology to live your your life by, or am I decrying the ethos of  !00% raw food selection

What I am emphatically endorsing is understanding a balanced Raw food lifestyle that has all the positive elements you get, from eliminating highly processed,  foods from your diet, applying exercise and mindfulness through understanding the REM lifestyle design.

Justification and Complacency

I am not one to raise the vegan flag and swat somebody over the head if they choose to eat meat or find a sense of convenience in buying a Big Mac or having a fish and chip takeaway.

Indeed the irony of a circumstance that is in my life is my youngest
daughter “don’t call me a kid anymore” year 11 teenager has got a

“do want fries with that” job at the local fast food outlet.

If you have children you soon realize that all the dreams and aspirations you had for them can quickly take a beeline out the back door as the innate complexity of the individual spectrum of humanity that they are becomes manifest.

So…. Do I have to find a place for justification that my daughter works
in a place that I know has many attributes of what I see as a ailing
society attached to it.

Is it my place to say to her she cannot work there as it offends my
sensibilities and certain parameters, no I do not think so and

I do not have to justify why I think she can or cannot work there, though at the same time I do not give in to any complacency on the issues that arise.

A point of contention that I labour with, is one of our ability to accept
and justify our positions from our knowledge learned,  our thoughts ingrained in us by prior association, as well as other inputs that are given to us through the advertising elements that surround us.

Without the application of mindfulness this combination can persuade us of the inability of  our lives to gather the courage to be able to step out of the norm, and deliver to ourselves a life that is unique and fulfilling.

When you look at a change you want to make in your life,

or the voice you want to be in the world

When the chatter in the back of your head starts telling you to forget it, it can not be done.

By default you make the voice of the easy, convenient, stand in line
thinking, all the more powerful in a world that needs more people to
start sticking their head out of the window and shouting I am mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

I am more than aware of the naysayers that continue to tell me how
unattainable the save the whale and keep the rain forest ideas are.

If you stand up and make a point that the production of meat is far more “expensive ” than sourcing plant based nutritional needs, the slaughter or manufacturing of the animal is only one aspect of the story.

If I am on the side of Plant based nutrition.

I can justify my stance against the degrees of suffering experienced by
animals at the slaughter house or at commercial farming practices.

In the same instance the protagonist across the table  seeking to
justify the point of view for animal consumption, can do so based on
criteria that is validated in their opinion.

So it becomes an argument of opinions, though each party may seem to have great evidence for the affirmation and validation of their idea to be the most truthful.

It is at this juncture that justification may give way to a complacency of acceptance.

When life is said and done, we all want to live on the side of going toward pleasure and away from pain.

So when there is more of the need to enter into an existence or
circumstance that has an aggravation ( pain) attached to it, choices can be quickly made to become complacent about certain attributes; seeking to temper the quality of justification requiring a more rigorous and or more inconvenient solution.

I personaly dont need to be right about something and prove my point. I do not want to enter a contest of who is right and who is wrong.

You can find an opposing position to most points of view or point of
contention.

Getting caught up in the need for justification to be a right or wrong
issue is fraught with many biased thinkings that complacency can creep into.

Complacency could be seen as the surrendering of an ideal through lack of resistance for the sake of convenience at the same time as justifying your actions to alleviate any conscience qualms.

The need to be mindful about what is the

thought process you are making decisions based on, is more of the element I would encourage to be the justification/ complacency base of your actions, not if it is right or wrong issue.

REM Lifestyle Design

Rem lifestyle design

Rawfood Barefoot Icon

Throughout the life of all of us, there are many challenges.

As you grew, so did your responsibilities; you are not the same… you… as when you breeched into this world.

So what is so very different now, from the you first starting out.

There would be a strong possibility that the way in which you interpret the thoughts that are part of the present who that you are, and how you manifest those thoughts into the world have taken many a twist and turn.

Presenting the who you are, and what you want from this life takes courage.

Courage that is sorely tested, often unavailable, yet there, hidden, laying dormant. Waiting for the pivotal moment when change is no longer  something that has an horizon you view toward, but pressing, now, urgent, inescapable.

Many times the damage is done before the teens, harsh words and consequences of actions by others, who are acting out their own thoughts that have been imprinted on their own neural framework.

These thoughts are not controlled or understood, echoing the voices they themselves were subject to.

Never before in the history of man do we have such an opportunity to explore for ourselves what is presented as the truth.  We do not have to hold true thoughts dispensed through others as they speak their truth as they see it.

The challenge put out to you, is to make decisions based on mindfulness of your actions in your life as you know it.

It then becomes the challenge as to what reminders of this internal thought process you to listen to.

At this point there are many twists and turns that could be taken in the process of exercising control of your thoughts/life.

The knowledge of your actions/ thoughts being totally in your control is something that eventually becomes part of your psyche and second nature if all three things of the Rem lifestyle design are brought together.

The basic intention for the observance of the Rem lifestyle design is to understand three basic tenets of a necessary balance enabling you to form a stable platform to live  from.

This enables you to cultivate equanimity in your life, enhancing the quality from whatever is your present moment reality.

Bare Foot Transition and Best Food Prices

Today Myself and Sonya my Co-host have a chat about Bare Foot Transition and Best Food Prices. Sonya has been transitioning over the past few weeks and has been logging up the K’s and shares how she is going.

We also tackle some of the cost benefits and basic fundamentals that are in a Raw Food lifestyle.

When you are looking at a sustainable lifestyle based on plant based nutrition best food prices are always a consideration. If organic is to expensive or hard to get, fresh local and seasonal produce are what you want to look for.

Food miles Or Kilometers is a good metric to work with when making sustainable buying decisions, the closer it is to your home the better it is as an environmentally sound choice.

Our tweaking and testing of the Raw Food treats we are going to be having at our Raw Food BareFoot Adventure in February is in full swing

Newbies Barefoot Transition Part Three

Play

Sonya continues her Newbies barefoot transition to natural form running, increasing in confidence, form and performance.

The decision to change from a shod runner to a barefoot natural form running is a challenge if you are used to getting your runners high from lots of distance under the feet.

To embrace a safe  Newbies barefoot transition you have to cut back on the distance and focus on form listening to your body tell you when to go longer and harder. All elements of barefoot running are healthy and are not  fad induced concepts.

Whenever your body has adapted to something, it will have the patterns set out like a computer program, this includes incorrect adaptations.

When you take of your shoes as part of a newbies barefoot transition you have to relearn the natural form running skill you have taught your body to ignore by running in shoes that have cushioned heels and do not allow for natural movement.

Newbies Barefoot Introduction

This series of podcasts is the chronology of the transition to barefoot running or natural form movement of a Sonya Carr who has taken a challenge from a marathon Madam to a 5K quickie her aim is learning The finer points of barefoot transitioning

Learning natural form running or as it’s called barefoot running can take some time and can be as complex or easy as you make it. In the vernacular of the minimalist running movement, barefoot running has a different context to the actuality of running with no shoes. The transition from a shod runner to what I call a natural form movement needs to be done with a degree of mindfulness and body awareness.

Listening to the body and what its demands are, give you the best return on a training advice. If your feet are too sore to run then don’t run simple as that. Consistency and simple demands on your body will return you a better result then you not listening to what your body is telling you and you overdoing everything.
