I know the audio is not as good as we can get it but this is recorded by the campfire and we just wanted to get some sort of podcast up and out there. Not for the sake of wasting your…… the listeners time with no appreciation that you tuned in, but more for us, as we have been changing a few thing’s up of late and we have not been doing the podcast routine which we both enjoy doing. It is not a case of making sure we get X amount of listener or production value is ace part of our intent is to encourage fellow travelers on this planet experiencing life to make the most out of it you are along time dead as they say. Life is to be lived and enjoyed each and every day. The need to take precautions and be sensible about the transition to barefoot running or as I call it natural form movement is is easy and complex you want to make it. The simple need is to take it slowly toughen the ligaments, muscles and foot pads as you go. It is a very simple thing with a progression of few exercises you can just make sure that the transition is as smooth and pain-free as you can make it   The secret …….if there is a secret……is to take it easy, just be prepared to not try and do the milage that you are used to and listen to your body. Okay I will admit it …..running on manicured grass and mown tracks is a darn sight more enticing than a gnarly rock strewn trail if you are a barefoot runner.

Training and Race reports 

  Maleny X-Country event was a cold and challenging course but as far as X-Country courses go is an awesome venue. Barefoot X-Country running The wind chill factor I estimated would have got it down to 0 Deg and waiting for the start after dropping the warm clothes was a challenge to say the least. Heading for the Pentath event so we are keeping the walk run walk 1/2 marathon training finding that we are most comfortable with a 1k run 30 sec walk Hill finish

The crisis, the hero faces their deepest desires Then seizing the reward from the feet of the enemy The heroes now transformed to the road back, somehow after all was thought being put to rest the story has one trick left… the last challenge Finally the hero returns home with the elixir with full acclaim all tensions are resolved and all unanswered questions answered. While that’s Hollywood’s version…… what’s  working out in your life ? We don’t know where the final result lies, just as we don’t know where all the dragon lairs are Dragons lair, Lair-flying-dragon-1207 What is important is having the resilience to go through these things and to keep going forward with positive intent. Our lives can be shared with a gratitude, and viewed with an appreciation of our individual part in this game called life that we all are involved in and play. The difference is you get more control over them then you do over your battles with other influences in your life

  I am more than aware of the naysayers that continue to tell me how unattainable the save the whale and keep the rain forest ideas are, When you stand up and make a point that the production of meat is far more “expensive ” than sourcing plant based nutritional needs, the slaughter or manufacturing of the animal is only one aspect of the story. Justification and Complacency 

I am not one to raise the vegan flag and swat somebody over the head if they choose to eat meat or find a sense of convenience in buying a Big Mac or having a fish and chip takeaway. Indeed the irony of a circumstance that is in my life is my youngest daughter “don’t call me a kid anymore” year 11 teenager has got a “do want fries with that” job at the local fast food outlet. If you have children you soon realize that all the dreams and aspirations you had for them can quickly take a beeline out the back door as the innate complexity of the individual spectrum of humanity that they are becomes manifest. So…. Do I have to find a place for justification that my daughter works in a place that I know has many attributes of what I see as a ailing society attached to it. Is it my place to say to her she cannot work there as it offends my sensibilities and certain parameters, no I do not think so and I do not have to justify why I think she can or cannot work there, though at the same time I do not give in to any complacency on the issues that arise. A point of contention that I labour with, is one of our ability to accept and justify our positions from our knowledge learned,  our thoughts ingrained in us by prior association, as well as other inputs that are given to us through the advertising elements that surround us. Without the application of mindfulness this combination can persuade us of the inability of  our lives to gather the courage to be able to step out of the norm, and deliver to ourselves a life that is unique and fulfilling. When you look at a change you want to make in your life, or the voice you want to be in the world When the chatter in the back of your head starts telling you to forget it, it can not be done. By default you make the voice of the easy, convenient, stand in line thinking, all the more powerful in a world that needs more people to start sticking their head out of the window and shouting I am mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. I am more than aware of the naysayers that continue to tell me how unattainable the save the whale and keep the rain forest ideas are. If I am on the side of Plant based nutrition.

I can justify my stance against the degrees of suffering experienced by animals at the slaughter house or at commercial farming practices. In the same instance the protagonist across the table  seeking to justify the point of view for animal consumption, can do so based on criteria that is validated in their opinion. So it becomes an argument of opinions, though each party may seem to have great evidence for the affirmation and validation of their idea to be the most truthful. It is at this juncture that justification may give way to a complacency of acceptance.

When life is said and done, we all want to live on the side of going toward pleasure and away from pain.

So when there is more of the need to enter into an existence or circumstance that has an aggravation ( pain) attached to it, choices can be quickly made to become complacent about certain attributes; seeking to temper the quality of justification requiring a more rigorous and or more inconvenient solution. I personaly dont need to be right about something and prove my point. I do not want to enter a contest of who is right and who is wrong. You can find an opposing position to most points of view or point of contention. Getting caught up in the need for justification to be a right or wrong issue is fraught with many biased thinkings that complacency can creep into. Complacency could be seen as the surrendering of an ideal through lack of resistance for the sake of convenience at the same time as justifying your actions to alleviate any conscience qualms. The need to be mindful about what is the thought process you are making decisions based on, is more of the element I would encourage to be the justification/ complacency base of your actions, not if it is right or wrong issue.

  When you look at your passion and play with the idea “is there a business opportunity in it”, The evil specter of commercialization raises it’s head from what could be fundamentally, an idle moments fascination for either yourself or others mildly interested in whatever your passion takes the form of.   Race reports and training ================= Run up to the heads at manly, swim, ferry Ride manley 5k, easy runs for me, hills, distance and speed for sonya   Listener question  How to stay Barefoot during Winter ================== As I have limited experience of cold weather barefoot running I got a bit of the cold weather running info from a Blogger Bob Neinast over at http://ahcuah.wordpress.com CIVD stands for “Cold-Induced Vasodilation”, and it describes what the body does when your extremities get cold. What happens is that, when exposed to cold, the body restricts blood flow to your extremities. However, if your body core temperature is maintained (that is, you are otherwise dressed warmly), your body, after a bit of time, will send extra blood to those extremities to warm them back up. It takes about 8-10 minutes for this warming to happen. The body then cycles this cooling/warming. After a while in the warm state, it will restrict the vessels again and your extremities will get cold again. This cycle can happen a few times before a steady-state is arrived at. This response can be conditioned. some people do respond better to conditioning that others. Practicing in the cold can speed up the vasodilation response. It is also the case that the body adapts. If, as winter approaches, you keep going barefoot, your feet will acclimate and will get better and better at tolerating (and even relishing) colder temperatures. Even wet conditions alone can be a bit of a challenge, because your feet absorb the water and get soft.   Topic of the week ===================== I had been struggling to find a subject as the topic of the week as we have been away with our heads in business mode and out of the head space for content production. Rawbarefootathlete & QueenofTarts Maybe note the term content production I have just used This was a buzzword among the participants of the event we attended, being as it was focused on marketing products using online direct marketing models. So what has this got to do with raw food barefoot running or mindfulness. So many times when we take a look at a business opportunity, or should I just take a step back and say, when you look at a passion and play with the idea “is there a business opportunity in it”, The evil specter of commercialization raises it’s head of what could be fundamentally, an idle moments fascination for either yourself or others mildly interested in whatever your passion takes the form of. For us, we can wax on lyrical about the benefits of unprocessed food and the energetic intent of your mindfulness of actions but does it pay the bills.

Marketing Your Passion

Indeed should it pay the bills, is there the need for a proactive stance against the side of our food chain that is depleting the ocean of its fish stocks, turning vast acres of land into arid wasteland through the overuse of chemical farming. Causing unheard and censured cries from animal farming practices. DO you honestly believe the mainstream news sources and consumer driven information channels. Is everything rosy in the world of the western or even larger developing nations. Is the motivation to put your head above the parapets to start saying “perhaps the emperor has no clothes” only to be based on a commercial reality. By doing that are you relegated to the fear monger and consigned to the fringe element and dealt with, like the family relative that is a bit embarrassing at the party because they don’t talk about the latest soap opera and are known to turn up with no shoes and just eat from the fruit bowl.( just saying ) Are you willing to put up with the naysayers of conscious living, IE there has never been a society of raw, non animal product eating peoples. You need to have B12, what about heme and nonheme iron, what about your omega 3 and 6 and so on and on. Content production is the lifeblood of all advertising and marketing. Each and every day we are marketed to, every ad that reminds you to get a vitamin pill or laxative, dwarfs the message of prevention before cure. Every time we allow our minds to be made up by the marketing medium that has the $ return as its absolute for the baseline of its effectiveness, we allow self justification of the ethics and outcomes that our lifestyles represent. By marketing Your Passion  of a more conscious message of lifestyle energetics, that calls for a more mindful and deliberate activation of self, independant of the established way of thinking. It delivers to you the ability to be more authentic in your decision making and see better outcomes in your life. Is raw food the panacea to all ills… no of course not….. Is the ability to run a marathon barefoot the hallmark of youngevity and fitness…..no of course not…. Is it a positive thing to cultivate the ability to take an objective view of the message you are being subjected to by your thoughts and the subconscious patterns that marketing sets up in you …of course it is

Commercial Validation 

By choosing to engage in the commercial validation of an idea and having to risk failing on the harsh cobblestones of the marketplace, whereby perhaps proving to others an inauthenticity of the message. Is this better than having the belief in an ultimate truth in the message that you champion, yet standing by whilst entrenched farming, health and consumer practices flourish, making them by default, apparently the correct and authentic methods. It is at the junction of individual awakening and shifts in human consciousness of the message of planet first, that the consumer driven needs of convenience and separation then can become one of acceptance that things need to change and the pendulum swings.

REM lifestyle design 

  By embracing the REM lifestyle design you put yourself into the best position that your given present moment situation can return for you. Starting with the mindfulness exercises of observation of breath to ground you to a present moment reality, taking stock of your energetics surrounding your movement and physiology. By applying a consciousness to the real nutritional value of your diet you can clean,motivate and rejuvenate allowing a positive change in you and those about you.

The common comment I hear is ” when I am in training for my Marathon I need something to help me through all those K’s ” Stop it then, don’t do it, I have no connection with you.  For me Marathon running is for people who have other goals and aspirations, other than achieving a level of the fitness that I aspire to. Marathon running is an event not a sport, same as Ironman triathlon. Is It Dangerous to Run With Headphones

 It’s a dangerous practice and doctors have definitely seen an increase in the number of runners who had accidents while wearing headphones, so the question is running with headphones good or bad Results There were 116 reports of death or injury of pedestrians wearing headphones. The majority of victims were male (68%) and under the age of 30 (67%). The majority of vehicles involved in the crashes were trains (55%), and 89% of cases occurred in urban counties. 74% of case reports stated that the victim was wearing headphones at the time of the crash. Many cases (29%) mentioned that a warning was sounded before the crash. Conclusions The use of headphones with handheld devices may pose a safety risk to pedestrians, especially in environments with moving vehicles.

Pros for having earphones on 

Music can sometimes make running feel easier. Studies find that music reduces your perception of how hard you are running by about 10 percent. An external stimulus such as music can actually block some of the internal stimuli trying to reach the brain—such as fatigue-related messages from muscles and organs. When these messages are blocked, this reduces a runner’s perception of effort, so you feel like you can run farther, faster.

Cons for running with headphones

One big problem is that listening to music can remove you from the other sounds that running produces, such as breathing and foot strike, which are essential cues.

They give you feedback on your effort.

Running while listening to music also removes you from the environment you’re in, which can be unsafe. And in races, it makes you oblivious of other runners and you can’t hear the directions being given by officials. WHO NEEDS MUSIC Serious athletes tend to be associators, which means they focus intently on internal cues such as breathing, heart rate, and muscular tension. This type of athlete tends to not derive as much benefit from external stimuli such as music. Then there are “dissociators.” Your average active person falls into this category. For these people, music can be a motivational force. Dissociators will seek it to distract them from the boredom often associated with exercise.

So why do you run

  For me I like to run and listen to my body and sometimes I go and just run, just like the saying “sometimes I sit and think sometimes I just sit” The ability to be at peace and be calm is something we’ve lost in our culture; we’ve lost it in favor of multitasking. I would agree that listening to music, podcasts or audiobooks during running is a form of multitasking. When In the “flow state,” which is complete immersion in the task at hand, time almost seems to stand still. You’re enjoying what you are doing, you feel at one with yourself. This is why I am a proponent of a barefoot raw food lifestyle stripped down simplicity The common comment I hear is ” when I am in training for my Marathon I need something to help me through all those K’s Marathon running is an event not a sport, same as Ironman triathlon. Marathon participation around the world is booming in recent years. Given the numbers supported by data, it’s obvious that running the vaunted Marathon distance is quickly becoming the de facto goal for many beginner runners. The intention to get of the couch and start a new life based on activity, healthy eating, and mindful decisions is something to be encouraged. Though, endurance events are not a long term viable choice in many aspects for the vast majority of punters. I am not going to make myself popular with the hard core marathhoners and Ironmen tattooed contingent, but they are just another money/ time sucking event. Being events that has very little to do with health and fitness, and more to what it has to do with obsessive indulgence and buying the latest and greatest toy that the consumer marketplace has on offer. I am not saying that you should not set a goal to compete in a ironman event or run a marathon, climb Mt everest, or firewalk Just understand your reasons why you want to be involved, for health and fitness or purge yourself of demons and dragons that there are better ways to slay.

Today my Co- host and I get back in the chairs to chat more about  our Barefoot Raw Minimalist Lifestyle, a topic that keeps coming up for us lately is the question ” How do you run without support ” we chat on the subject giving you our perspective. The science tells you, muscle, ligament components of the body atrophy if not used, the foot is a wonder of  bio engineering that deserve more attention than being strapped into shoes that are touted to fix us as the broken runners, the marketing messages spruke to us. The Barefoot Raw Minimalist Lifestyle, is asking you to examine what you are accepting as truth from the system as it applies to your life. I often state going barefoot is not only about what you take off, there is the shift to an awareness that you can put on, opening up your life to possibilities and ways to examine issues or circumstances in your life that you  may not have had an insight into. With the awareness of the components of the REM Lifestyle design you are able to apply yourself to the present moment of your life, sustainable nutritional choices, mindfulness and exercise will lift you to an energetic relationship with yourself and the world around you. We also tackle some of the cost benefits and basic fundamentals that are in a Raw Food lifestyle. When you are looking at a sustainable lifestyle based on plant based nutrition best food prices are always a consideration. If organic is to expensive or hard to get, fresh local and seasonal produce are what you want to look for. Food miles Or Kilometers is a good metric to work with when making sustainable buying decisions, the closer it is to your home the better it is as an environmentally sound choice.   The Kawana park run is the background for this next podcast journalling entry of Sonya’s bare foot transition story. The up sell of a life change is always found not in the most immediate of the effects but in the longer term ongoing position that the change will gravitate you towards. Speaking of the transition from depending on running shoes to get you into the mode of being a bare foot runner or an active participant of life , where as in reality you have all the appendages you need is just a tip of the iceberg of preconceived and at times carefully manufactured belief structures. You just need the permission by way of a societal mindset to be an athlete …a runner,, a marathoner.. take your pick, but with the statement that you are going to get off the couch of doom and perform the act of running, you are not found to be serious or prepared unless you have the latest and greatest foot fetish sport apparel on. So is there many a scenario that he barrier to change is the need for a permission based accoutrement or permission slip from the relevant authority to feel good about any change you want to bring about in your life. The more resistance to the concept because it not the done thing is a fairly good indicator the translation is……. there is no money in it that’s why you don’t get to hear of the health or positive lifestyle changes that can be gained from the activity .. Not that I am say there is a conspiratorial theory attached to every marketing message or elaborate ruse that gets passed of as authoritative  information on the subject… bless the internet if you are connected to the goggle you can be an authority on just about any  subject. The difficulty is avoiding all the marketing messages that go along with the deep pockets of the companies that are using you as the cash cow in a consumerist society wending it way to the bottom of the evolutionary scale with the Zombie breed now running neck and neck with the obese and chronically ill denizens that feed from the umbilical cord of debt based consumer spending and assisted life experiences though TV reality and filtered news. The good news is you can choose to take your shoes off, go for a run, with the knowledge you are physically capable of preforming the act with out needing to strap on to your feet what is going to end up as a piece of  toxic land fill. This mindful conciousness is what you need to bring to your life each and every day, each action and belief that you operate with needs to be examined once in awhile and see if it stands the test of if it is a worthwhile pursuit. The more your life gets full of busy, the less full your life gets of the real connection to the earth and the more you live the story of busy. Raw food nutrition, energetic practices with mindfulness, form the REM life style design, a simple three part  platform to live a balanced life from. I hope you can spend sometime to ask a question or examine your lifestyle and see into what built in responses and prepared truths are served to you. Challenge the ones that take you away from living with enthusiasm for this time we have here together on this earth.

Raw Food Bare Foot Mindfulness 

It has been a very busy week or so in the realm of all things Raw and Bare foot. Sonya’s transition to a natural form movement running is going well and she shares her experiences on this weeks show. I have been having a few technical difficulties getting the show into Itunes  for some reason, it used to be an automatic process but it seems to have gone of the rails somewhere at the time of publishing this post, so I hope you are able to listen by streaming or downloading from the website player. The Raw Food Bare Foot Adventure weekend clinic is announced and the variations of delightful dishes to present are getting larger so I have been having to taste test many treats….such a hard life 🙂 I try not to make the information sound like raw food, or going  bare foot is the critical path to life’s success, though I totally believe nutrition based on an unprocessed plant based regime, with energetic connections to the earth and a life conducted with mindfulness training is a most wonderful platform to life from.
