Mental health issues

Depression is a state of mind that everyone goes through at least once in a lifetime.
Failures in life, the death of loved ones, serious illnesses or other personal problems cause depression in millions of people.

Exercising for 15-20 minutes or going for a brisk walk for about half an hour will do wonders in improving your mood making you feel better.

Set small goals
People who are depressed may feel that they cannot accomplish anything in life and are nothing more than failures.

The Wim Hof method is popular for its connection to engaging the body at a parasympathetic level with the breathing techniques.
Patrick Mckeown speaks to simulating the High altitude training decreased oxygen adaption.
I have been using both and adapting the best principles for sports performance as a barefoot runner. Using exercises based on the iceman pushups and the breathing exercises from the oxygen advantage program.
I am using an ascending set based on starting with an easy set after full the wim hof method breathing technique,then running 15 steps on no breath, stop take 5 breaths based on the nasal breathing technique, from the patrick mckeown the oxygen advantage. Repeating the 5 breath work, hold the 6th breath then run 2 other reps increasing each rep to 25 then 35 steps.
I then repeat this 3 times with same breathing exercise but increasing steps. I put this in as part of a longer run and jog out until I am recovered.

We decided that as educators of a lifestyle we have seen benefit many people and their lives….including ours, the title of the show did not accurately represent the total message that we want to share.
We are building out a new site at www.thefreeradicals.com.au where we want to still spread the word of the advantages and benefits of a plant based lifestyle.
We passionately believe and continue to follow and teach a plant based Raw Food diet, yet it was a roadblock to those who did not get the “Raw Food” aspect of a lifestyle for healthy aging and energetics.
A prominent theme throughout the interactions we have with listeners of the podcast and participants of our events and market days was one of a specific intolerance to the food groups around dairy and wheat products.
As it seems with all things there will be the prophets of doom, the naysayers and sceptics in regards to a shake up or examination of accepted nutritional values.
Yet the results of the dietary and nutritional intake we insist in partaking of, in our western culture and the consequences that are showing up as we age and even in our young children is alarming.
It has always been our intention to stimulate thought and action in a person to examine their life and see if it fits with their idea of what health and vitality is.
To many people have accepted ill health and disease, lack of vitality as a consequence of aging.
The health and vitality decline seen as a person ages has been attributed as a consequence of the effect of old age.
There are many factors that play the hand of age related illness. The physical count of how many time we go around the sun on this bit of rock called the earth, is not the only correlation to age related infirmity.
So we still call on you the reader and listener to examine the “truths” and accepted ways of doing things but the need for us to bang the “Raw Food” drum is not as critical to what we perceive as our message to bring awareness to the more invasive and accepted products that have immediate and long term damage to both the environment and your health.
We still continue to be barefoot runners and competitive age group athletes. Our content production for our new podcast and site will be aimed more at education and alternatives for dairy and gluten products in recipes and lifestyles.
As well as our commitment to healthy active sport participation we hope to be positive signposts to others by leading a lifestyle full of energetic and mindful living.

Campfire Barefoot Chat
I know the audio is not as good as we can get it but this is recorded by the campfire and we just wanted to get some sort of podcast up and out there.
Not for the sake of wasting your…… the listeners time with no appreciation that you tuned in, but more for us, as we have been changing a few thing’s up of late and we have not been doing the podcast routine which we both enjoy doing.
It is not a case of making sure we get X amount of listener or production value is ace part of our intent is to encourage fellow travelers on this planet experiencing life to make the most out of it you are along time dead as they say.
Life is to be lived and enjoyed each and every day.
The need to take precautions and be sensible about the transition to barefoot running or as I call it natural form movement is is easy and complex you want to make it.
The simple need is to take it slowly toughen the ligaments, muscles and foot pads as you go.
It is a very simple thing with a progression of few exercises you can just make sure that the transition is as smooth and pain-free as you can make it
The secret …….if there is a secret……is to take it easy, just be prepared to not try and do the milage that you are used to and listen to your body.

Okay I will admit it …..running on manicured grass and mown tracks is a darn sight more enticing than a gnarly rock strewn trail if you are a barefoot runner.
Training and Race reports
Maleny X-Country event was a cold and challenging course but as far as X-Country courses go is an awesome venue.
The wind chill factor I estimated would have got it down to 0 Deg and waiting for the start after dropping the warm clothes was a challenge to say the least.
Heading for the Pentath event so we are keeping the walk run walk 1/2 marathon training finding that we are most comfortable with a 1k run 30 sec walk
